Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ryder Guyana ("Ryder", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects personal information across the Ryder mobile app (for riders and drivers), the base partner portal, and the admin platform. It applies to everyone who uses Ryder: riders, drivers, and partner dispatch bases. By using Ryder you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: name, phone number, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), and profile photo.
Rider information: pickup and drop-off locations, trip history, ratings and comments you leave, and saved places. Ryder is cash-only: fares are paid directly to the driver, so we do not collect card details, hold balances, or process rider payments.
Driver information: driver's licence, national ID, and insurance documents/photos (for identity verification), vehicle details, live GPS location while online, trip and earnings history, ratings, and acceptance/cancellation statistics.
Base partner information: business name, owner/manager name, contact details, address, and fleet and driver roster.
Device & usage information: device model and OS, app version, IP address, diagnostic/crash data, and push-notification tokens.
2. Location Information (Including Background Location for Drivers)
Riders share location only while using the app (foreground) to set a pickup point, match with nearby drivers, and view the trip on the map. Riders are not tracked in the background.
Drivers share location continuously while they are online or on a trip, including when the app is minimized or the screen is off. This background location is essential to the service: it lets riders see their driver approaching, powers dispatch and matching, and keeps trip records accurate. Drivers control this by going offline, which stops location sharing. We collect background location only for the driver role and only while on duty.
3. Camera & Photos
Drivers may upload photos of their licence, insurance, and national ID from their photo library or camera for verification. Riders and drivers may set a profile photo. We access the photo library/camera only when you choose to upload.
4. How We Use Information
To create and manage accounts; match riders with drivers; verify driver identity (KYC); enable live trip tracking and safety features; translate messages between a rider and driver who use different app languages; compute ratings and reports; send trip and account notifications; prevent fraud and abuse; and provide customer support. Ryder is cash-only and takes no commission, so we neither calculate fares nor hold anyone's money. We do not sell your personal information.
5. How Information Is Shared
Between trip participants: a rider and their matched driver see each other's first name, rating, vehicle details, and approximate live location for the duration of a trip.
With bases: a base can see the drivers, vehicles, and trips affiliated with it.
With administrators: Ryder platform administrators can access operational data to run the service, resolve disputes, and enforce these policies.
With service providers who operate our infrastructure under confidentiality obligations, including: Supabase (authentication and document storage), our cloud API host, mapping and geocoding providers (OpenStreetMap-based services), push notification delivery, and a machine-translation service that receives the text of in-app messages when the rider and driver use different app languages. We may disclose information if required by law.
Driver documents are held in private storage. They are never reachable by a public link: the driver and our verification team open them through a link created on request that expires within minutes.
6. Data Retention
How long each kind of information is kept:
- Your account, profile, photo, saved places and emergency contacts: while the account exists. Erased the moment you delete it.
- Driver documents and vehicle details: while the driver account exists, and replaced when you upload newer ones. Erased when the account is deleted.
- Messages and ratings: kept so both people can look back at a trip. A message is erased when the person who sent it deletes their account; a rating is erased when either the person who gave it or the person it is about deletes theirs.
- Completed trips: kept as operational, safety and tax records. Once either person deletes their account, the trip no longer identifies them.
- Crash and diagnostic reports: kept by our error-reporting provider for a limited period and then discarded automatically.
When you delete your account, your personal data is erased at once (see Your Rights below). Completed trips are the exception, because a trip belongs to two people: the ride stays on file for the other rider or driver, with every link to you removed first, so nothing on it identifies you. We also keep a note that an account with that account number was deleted. It holds no personal details and exists so the account cannot be rebuilt by a session that was still open.
7. Your Rights & Choices
You may access or correct your profile in the app. You can revoke location, camera, or notification permissions in your device settings (note that some features will stop working; for example, a driver cannot go online without location).
Deleting your account: in the Ryder app, open Account and tap Delete Account. You confirm once, and the account is erased immediately and permanently, from both our database and the sign-in system behind it: your profile, sign-in identity, photo, uploaded documents, saved places, emergency contacts, messages, ratings and notifications. There is no undo and no waiting period. If you cannot open the app, or you have a base or administrator account, follow the steps on the Delete Your Account page instead.
Under the Data Protection Act 2023 of Guyana you may ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email support@caeautomations.com and we will answer within the period the Act allows. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Guyana.
8. Cookies & Similar Technologies
Our web portals use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in (secure, http-only session cookies). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The mobile app stores your session token securely on your device.
9. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are stored only as salted bcrypt hashes. Access to operational data is role-based, and sensitive administrator actions are recorded in an audit log. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
If something goes wrong: if a security breach puts your personal data at risk, we will notify the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Guyana as the Data Protection Act 2023 requires, and tell the people affected without undue delay, explaining what happened, what data was involved, and what we are doing about it.
Where your data is kept: Ryder runs on cloud providers whose servers are outside Guyana, including Supabase for sign-in and document storage and our API host. Using them means your data is transferred out of Guyana. We only use providers that encrypt data and restrict access to it, and we require them to protect it to a standard consistent with the Data Protection Act 2023.
10. Children
Ryder is not intended for anyone under 18. Everyone confirms they are 18 or older when creating an account, and a driver's age is also checked against their national ID and licence during verification. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or portal before they take effect. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
